Paramectin Pour-On For Cattle PARAMECTIN-POUR-ON Jurox

Description

Paramectin Pour-On for Cattle is an abamectin pour-on for cattle that treats internal and external parasites. It contains 5 g/L abamectin, a macrocyclic lactone from the avermectin family. Producers apply it to beef and dairy cattle to control roundworms, lungworm, lice, buffalo fly, and cattle tick. The solution pours straight onto the backline. Therefore, you avoid the labour of oral drenching.

Zoetis Australia Pty Ltd registers and supplies Paramectin Pour-On for Cattle. The active ingredient works against both adult and immature stages of sensitive parasites. As a result, it suits routine worm control and lice treatment at the same handling event. Moreover, it protects treated cattle from buffalo fly reinfestation for up to 14 days. The milk withholding period is zero days. However, the meat withholding period is 35 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What parasites does Paramectin Pour-On control?

It controls internal and external parasites of cattle. For example, these include roundworms, lungworms, lice, buffalo flies, and cattle ticks. The active ingredient is abamectin at 5 g/L.

What is the dose rate for Paramectin Pour-On?

The dose rate is 1 mL per 10 kg bodyweight. That is, this gives 500 µg per kg. Then apply it along the backline from the withers to the tail.

What is the meat withholding period?

The meat withholding period is 35 days. Also, the milk withholding period is zero days. The export slaughter interval is 42 days.

Can I use Paramectin Pour-On on young calves?

No. Do not treat calves under 16 weeks of age. Also, avoid calves under 50 kg bodyweight.

How often can I re-treat cattle?

The minimum retreatment interval is 35 days. So do not re-treat sooner than this. Finally, dose to the heaviest animal in each weight group.

Why use Paramectin Pour-On in a drench rotation program?

Rotation slows drench resistance. Therefore, alternate abamectin with a different active group each season. For example, follow it with a white or clear drench. As a result, you keep worm control working for longer.

No contradictions are stated on the 'directions for use' label for Paramectin Pour-On For Cattle regarding the use of pregnant cows. If possible, handling cows late into the pregnancy and close to calving should be avoided to avoid potential complications related to handling stress. The 'directions for use' are on the Paramectin Pour-On product screen. Scroll down to the heading 'SDS & Technical' select, and a pdf will become available for download or printing.

To maintain withholding periods and animal safety, the minimum retreatment interval for Paramectin Pour-On is 35 days.  If fly pressure is high you may have to look at alternating to a specific Buffalo Fly backline treatment such as Brute Pour-On, Easy-Dose Pour-On or Demize Pour-On.  The use of Backrubbers or Insecticidal Fly Tags might also be of interest.
